Italian Ministry of health calls for strengthening epidemic prevention measures

Italy’s Ministry of civil defense reported on July 7 that 20765 new crown cases were confirmed and 207 died, with a total of 3067486 confirmed cases and 99785 deaths. Roberto Speranza, Italy’s health minister, said the mutated new coronavirus found in the UK is a new challenge at this stage and must strengthen epidemic prevention measures.
According to statistics released by Italy’s National Bureau of statistics, in 2020, 746146 people died, the highest since the end of World War II. Among them, the worst affected by COVID-19, Lombardia, from March 2020 to May, the death rate increased by 111.8% over the same period from 2015 to 2019. In the second wave of the epidemic, the growth rate of death population in Lombardy increased by 37.1%.
In addition, in 2020, the increase in mortality in Italy is mainly due to the group over 80 years old, of which about 76% of the deaths are over 80 years old, and the mortality rate also accounts for a considerable proportion among men aged 65 to 79.
In addition, according to the latest report of the Italian National Health Center, the mutated virus found in the UK is rapidly spreading throughout Italy, and its transmission speed is higher than before. At present, at least 54% of the infected people in Italy are related to the mutated virus.
On March 7, Italian health minister Speranza said that the mutated virus found in the UK is the main enemy in the current epidemic prevention work. Data show that the mutant virus will affect the infection curve in the next few weeks, and the further increase of infection will inevitably let more regions enter the red epidemic prevention area. He hoped that the new law would essentially contain the new coronavirus.
Speranza pointed out that the emergence of new variants of the virus is a new challenge facing the epidemic situation. We must strengthen epidemic prevention measures and adopt very strict policies to deal with the epidemic situation. Due to the great differences of epidemic situation in different parts of Italy, different levels of epidemic prevention measures have been taken.
He agreed that local governments should introduce more stringent epidemic prevention measures to curb the epidemic, and at the same time, vaccination should be further accelerated to cope with the current epidemic trend.
