Description
Description: Cabtana is an intravenous medication containing Cabazitaxel, which belongs to a class of drugs known as taxanes. It is primarily used in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer that has progressed despite treatment with other chemotherapy agents.
Mechanism of Action: Cabazitaxel works by inhibiting microtubule depolymerization, thereby disrupting the dynamic processes of mitosis and cell division in cancer cells. This interference with cellular division ultimately leads to cell death, slowing down the progression of cancer.
Indications: Cabtana is indicated for the treatment of patients with metastatic hormone-refractory prostate cancer (mHRPC) previously treated with a docetaxel-containing treatment regimen.
Dosage and Administration: Cabtana is administered intravenously over a one-hour infusion period, typically every three weeks. The dosage is determined by the patient’s body surface area and overall health condition. It is essential to administer Cabtana under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional experienced in the use of chemotherapy agents.
Precautions and Warnings:
- Cabtana should not be administered to patients with a known hypersensitivity to Cabazitaxel or any other components of the formulation.
- Patients should be monitored closely for signs of neutropenia, which may require dose adjustments or treatment interruptions.
- Cabtana may cause severe hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis. Immediate medical attention should be sought if such reactions occur.
- Patients should undergo regular blood tests to monitor hematologic parameters, liver function, and renal function during treatment with Cabtana.
- Cabtana may cause fetal harm if administered to pregnant women. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during treatment and for a certain period thereafter.
Adverse Reactions: Common adverse reactions associated with Cabtana include neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, alopecia, peripheral neuropathy, and febrile neutropenia.
Storage: Cabtana should be stored at controlled room temperature away from moisture and heat. It should be kept out of reach of children and disposed of properly in accordance with local regulations.
