Description
Samtica is a pharmaceutical product manufactured by Samarth Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., containing Abiraterone as its active ingredient. This medication is primarily used in the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer, particularly when conventional hormonal therapies have proven ineffective. Samtica tablets are designed to inhibit androgen production in the body, thereby slowing down the progression of prostate cancer.
Composition: Each tablet of Samtica contains 250mg of Abiraterone as the active pharmaceutical ingredient, along with appropriate excipients.
Mechanism of Action: Abiraterone, the primary component of Samtica, functions by selectively inhibiting the enzyme CYP17 (17α-hydroxylase/C17,20-lyase), which plays a crucial role in the biosynthesis of androgens in the testes, adrenal glands, and prostate tumor tissue. By blocking this enzyme, Abiraterone reduces the production of androgens, including testosterone, ultimately slowing down the growth of prostate cancer cells.
Indications: Samtica is indicated for the treatment of:
- Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC)
- Metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC)
Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of Samtica is usually 1000mg (four tablets) once daily, administered orally on an empty stomach at least one hour before or two hours after a meal. The tablets should be swallowed whole with water and should not be crushed, chewed, or broken.
Precautions and Warnings:
- Prior to initiating treatment with Samtica, patients should undergo appropriate monitoring, including measurement of serum potassium, blood pressure, and liver function tests.
- Caution should be exercised when administering Samtica to patients with a history of cardiovascular disease or those at risk for cardiovascular events.
- Patients should be closely monitored for signs of mineralocorticoid excess (e.g., hypertension, hypokalemia, fluid retention) during treatment with Samtica.
Side Effects: Common side effects associated with Samtica may include:
- Hypertension
- Hypokalemia
- Fluid retention
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Joint swelling or pain
- Hot flushes
- Diarrhea
Storage: Samtica tablets should be stored at room temperature (25°C / 77°F) in a dry place away from direct sunlight. They should be kept out of reach of children and pets.
